Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!!!
Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it makes you urinate more frequently, leading to dehydration.
This dehydration is a significant factor in causing hangover symptoms so here’s how you can harness the power of hydration to beat your Seis de Mayo hangover:
Drink fluids before bed:
Before hitting the sack, drink at least one glass of water for every alcoholic drink you consumed during your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. This helps to rehydrate your body and can lessen the severity of a hangover.
Sip on electrolyte-rich drinks:
Replenish lost fluids and essential electrolytes by sipping on sports drinks, coconut water, or what I recommend -LMNT! These can help restore balance to your body and speed up recovery.
I have found that making Margaritas with some of the LMNT flavors is a great way to kill two birds with one stone.
Avoid caffeine and sugary drinks:
While it might be tempting to reach for coffee or soda for a quick energy boost, these beverages can further dehydrate you. Stick to water or electrolyte-rich drinks for optimal hydration.
Keep a water bottle handy:
Make sure to drink water consistently throughout the day before, during, and after your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Keeping a water bottle by your side will serve as a constant reminder to stay hydrated!
DON’T SLEEP ON THOSE Z’s!!!
Sleep is a super power to knock out that hangover!
Ever wondered why you feel so groggy and disoriented after a night of margaritas and cervezas?
Well, alcohol actually disrupts your sleep cycle, leaving you feeling less than refreshed when you wake up so all those “passed out” hours you thought you were getting restful sleep….yeah, not so much!
However here a few tips on how to leverage the power of sleep to combat your Seis de Mayo hangover:
Prioritize rest:
Make sure to get a full 7-9 hours of sleep after your Cinco de Mayo festivities. Your body needs time to recover and process the alcohol, and sleep is the best way to facilitate that.
Nap if necessary:
If you're still feeling the effects of a hangover after a good night's sleep, don't hesitate to take a power nap. Even a short 20-30 minute nap can help boost your energy levels and alleviate hangover symptoms.
Create a sleep-friendly environment:
Ensure your bedroom is conducive to sleep by keeping it dark, cool, and quiet. You can also use a white noise machine or a fan to block out any disruptive sounds.
Supplementation:
A natural sleep supplement like Sleep Remedy can help your body get into a more productive and regulated sleep cycle and enhance the rejuvenating rest you need to fight off that fiesta firestorm!
Vitamins, Minerals, and Foods: Fuel for Recovery
Hangovers can leave your body depleted of essential vitamins and minerals. Replenishing these nutrients and eating the right foods can help speed up your recovery.
Here's how you can utilize vitamins, minerals, and foods as tools to beat your post Cinco de Mayo hangover:
Take a multivitamin:
A comprehensive multivitamin can help replenish essential nutrients that may have been depleted during your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Look for one that includes B vitamins, vitamin C, and magnesium, as these can be particularly helpful in hangover recovery.
Boost your potassium levels:
Alcohol consumption can cause a drop in your potassium levels, which can lead to fatigue and muscle weakness. Eating potassium-rich foods like bananas, avocados, and spinach can help restore your potassium levels and give you an energy boost!
Load up on antioxidants:
Antioxidants can help neutralize the harmful effects of alcohol on your body. Berries, cherries, grapes, and dark leafy greens are all rich in antioxidants and can be easily incorporated into your recovery meal plan.
Savor some soup:
A warm bowl of soup, such as chicken or vegetable broth, can help restore sodium levels and rehydrate your body. Plus, it's easy on your stomach, making it a perfect choice for those battling nausea.
Opt for easy-to-digest foods:
Steer clear of heavy, greasy foods that can be difficult to digest and may exacerbate your hangover symptoms. Instead, choose bland, easily digestible options like toast, crackers, or oatmeal!
So there it is!
