Well…
Here we are again. The most joyous time of the year for many of us!
Family, food, parties and gatherings, shopping trips, dinners out, plays..
All of the beautiful things we love about the holidays, right!?
The hustle and bustle. The hugs and gifts. The memories created with our loved ones.
So exciting!
…And then it’s over.
Just like that, in the blink of an eye, it’s back to the real world and back to life.
We look down.
Our wallets have shrunk and our waistlines have grown.
And you’re feeling quite claustrophobic in those new pants you were gifted.
You swore you gave them the right size!!
Trust me. I’ve been there.
So what can we do about it?
Well we all know how important proper diet and exercise are so we want to stick to that as much as possible, but the third leg (and most often neglected) is quality sleep!
With the on-the-go mentality of this time of year we often put our fitness on the back burner until the season is over (i.e New Year’s resolution). And even for those who can stay somewhat consistent with it, have more hurdles this time of year.
However, controlling our sleep and quality of sleep can be a powerful tool to help keep those belts at the same notch when everything else has gone sideways.
A lack of quality sleep has been shown to have a significant effect on our weight management.
For one, longer wakeful hours can dramatically increase caloric intake and most times those calories will come from not so healthy foods like sugary snacks. Lack of sleep or poor sleep has also been linked to increased Ghrelin (the hunger hormone) making this a double whammy and a belt busting combination!
Also, less than desirable quality of sleep has been linked to increased Cortisol production, especially later in the day. Cortisol is a stress hormone that is typically highest after waking and dwindles through the day. However in high stress times like the holidays or life in general, these levels can remain elevated throughout the day and cause an increase in appetite, especially cravings for high fat, high salt, and high sugar containing foods.
Combine just these factors and we can see where our lack of sleep or poor quality can put us in an uphill battle to keep the pounds off.
However, a few simple tricks can drastically help our cause:
Now, I know that this may not be possible for everyone at this hectic time of year so a high quality sleep supplement like Sleep Remedy will do wonders for your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep. Sleep Remedy is a supplement I created that works with your body to give you all of the nutrients you need to NATURALLY get you into a DEEPER and more REJUVENATING sleep state.
What’s that mean?
Let’s stuff some stockings instead of stuffing our guts!
I wish you a wonderful holiday season and appreciate you so much for all of your support through the year!
Here’s to a restful holiday and pants that fit!
